CallGov BD ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what the CallGov BD mobile application stores, which device permissions it uses and why, and which third-party services are involved when the public directory updates or an advertisement is shown.
In short
- CallGov BD is a public contact directory. We do not require an account and we do not collect your personal phonebook.
- Favorites and cached directory records are stored on your device.
- Phone permission is used only when you tap Call.
- Public contacts may be refreshed from our database when you are online.
- The app shows advertisements supplied by Google AdMob, described in section 6.
01Who this policy covers
This policy applies to the CallGov BD mobile application for Android
(com.callgovbd.app) and to this website. It describes how the
app handles information when you browse police, field administration and
hotline contacts, mark favorites, place a call, or open another app from a
contact card.
CallGov BD does not require you to create an account. You can use the directory without signing in, and after the first launch you can browse cached contacts without an internet connection.
This website may use Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use it — for example which pages are viewed, the referring site, device and browser type, and approximate location. Advertising features are turned off, and for visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, analytics cookies are not stored. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Website analytics are separate from the app and never include your personal contacts.
02Data stored on your device
The following information is written to storage on your own device:
- A local cache of the public directory — police, field administration and hotline records — so the app loads instantly and works offline
- Favorites you mark, stored as a flag on those local records
- App settings such as theme (light, dark or system)
- Sync timestamps used to decide when a quiet background refresh is due
Android backup of app data is turned off. Uninstalling the app removes the local cache and your favorites from the device.
03What we never collect
To be explicit, CallGov BD does not:
- Ask you to create an account, or store a password for you
- Read or upload your personal phonebook, call log or SMS inbox
- Place calls, send messages or open WhatsApp unless you tap that action
- Sell or rent your personal information to anyone
04Public directory data
The names, designations, units, phone numbers and emails shown in the app are public directory records. A copy is bundled with the app so a fresh install works immediately. When you are online and the cache is older than about 12 hours, the app may refresh those records from our Firebase Firestore database.
That database holds the same public directory — not your favorites, not your personal contacts, and not a profile of you. A failed refresh leaves the cached copy untouched.
Please note: directory numbers can change. CallGov BD is a convenience tool, not an official government publication. Verify critical numbers through official sources.
05Permissions and why the app asks
Each permission below powers one specific feature. You can decline Phone permission; browsing the directory still works, and you can copy a number yourself.
-
Phone Optional
android.permission.CALL_PHONEUsed only when you tap Call on a contact, so the dialer can place that call. The app does not read your call history and does not place calls in the background. -
Internet Required
android.permission.INTERNETUsed to refresh the public directory, serve advertisements, and open websites or messaging apps you choose (WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram, email). Your personal phonebook is not uploaded. -
Network state Required
android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATEUsed to check whether the device is online before attempting a directory refresh or loading an ad, so the app stays reliable offline. -
Advertising ID Required
com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_IDUsed by Google AdMob to serve advertisements. Your directory favorites and the contacts you view are not shared with advertisers. See section 6.
06Advertising
CallGov BD is free and displays advertisements supplied by Google AdMob — banners in long lists, occasional interstitials after a period of active use (not in the middle of a tap), and an optional rewarded ad if you choose “Watch an ad to support us” in Settings.
To serve ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK may access your device's Advertising ID along with technical information such as device type, operating system version, coarse location derived from your IP address, and ad interaction events.
This information is handled by Google as described in the Google Privacy & Terms. Your CallGov BD favorites and the contacts you browse are never shared with advertisers or used to target ads.
You can reset or delete your Advertising ID, and opt out of ad personalisation, in Settings → Privacy → Ads on your Android device.
07Third-party services
The services below are involved in specific features. Each has its own privacy policy governing the data it receives. When you tap Call, SMS, Email, WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram or a website link, the app opens that app or service on your device — their practices are not controlled by us.
| Service | Used for | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Google Play Services | Core Android functionality | Device and app identifiers |
| Google AdMob | Serving advertisements | Advertising ID, device signals, ad interactions |
| Cloud Firestore | Refreshing the public contact directory | Public directory records only — not your favorites or phonebook |
| Google Analytics (this website only) | Measuring visits to callgovbd.app | Pages viewed, referring site, device and browser type, approximate location |
08Data retention and deletion
Because favorites and the cached directory live on your device, you control how long they are kept. Clearing the app data in your device settings, or uninstalling the app, removes everything CallGov BD stored locally.
Public directory records on our servers are operational data for the app, not a profile of you. Advertising and website analytics are retained under Google's own schedules.
09Security
Directory refreshes use HTTPS. Android backup of the app's data is disabled so a device backup does not copy the local cache elsewhere. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure. Keeping your device locked and your operating system updated remains the most effective protection.
10Children's privacy
CallGov BD is a general-audience directory and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through the app, please contact us and we will address it.
11Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves — for example when a feature is added or a third-party service changes. The "last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the current version, and significant changes will be highlighted in the app or its store listing.
12Directory disclaimer
CallGov BD is an independent contact directory for convenience. It is not an official app of the Government of Bangladesh or Bangladesh Police. We do not guarantee that every number is available, accurate or complete. Verify critical information through official sources when needed.
